Use it Up, Wear it Out, Make it Do or Do Without

When we got our house up North we had a need for a bed spread on a spare bed. However money was short with all the new expenses. What to do?

I may not have had money but I did have an old quilt. It was in sad shape but would be perfect for the spare room with a little help....maybe alot! ~smile~

It had many patches that were worn and had torn away from the quilt and some patches were gone altogether. I looked through my fabric box and found some that would match well with the quilt so I cut it into the right size squares and stitched them in where patches were missing or or just in need of repair. Then I sewed the loose patches back in place. Now I had a like new quilt for our spare bed up north and best yet it was free!

I have tried to follow this old saying of "use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without" and it has served me well. So often we think we need something and dash off to buy it. If we follow this old advice we can save alot of money by "shopping" our own homes first or repairing an item or just doing without.
